The Appearance of the Bronze Age in eastern Mediterranean is an era which is connected with an important cultural change in the human evolution. Humans acquired a new knowledge, the alloying of copper and the production of bronze. In many places this era follows an obscure final Neolithic period during which many settlements were abandoned at the onset of the 4th millennium BC for several hundred years. The early Bronze Age settlers reoccupy these sites as well as new ones at the very end of the 4th millennium, bringing the new metal technology and cultural changes as witnessed by their ceramics and other artifacts.
The aim of this session is to trace, monitor and document the appearance of the Bronze Age across the eastern Mediterranean in terms of absolute times, geographical distribution, environmental/landscape patterns, cultural and social characteristics. Some of the questions that are hopped to be addressed could be: Where and when DID it first appeared and how waS IT distributed in time and space? How WAS this technology acquired and how was IT related to the place and surroundings? Was there any cultural, social or economic need for its development? What are the cultural or other differences from the preceding period? The contribution of the environment tOWARDS THE Bronze Age transition: Abrupt climate changes and their environmental and cultural impact.
Papers combining archaeological and scientific evidence are welcome, although pure archaeological or scientific papers will be equally important in contributing evidence and theories ABOUT the appearance of the Bronze Age.
